How to survive Valentine’s Day?

First of all, I would like to start with a reminder that, apart from being the Day for Lovers, Valentine’s is also the Day for Friends. So if you don’t have a partner, no need to worry because you still have a very good reason / excuse to celebrate.

Start by proposing a super plan to your friends: a bite to eat at your place, a movie marathon or a shopping spree. If you do choose the shopping spree, just try to avoid the larger centres, as you might want to avoid the manic intensity of shopping on the 14th of February: posters of Cupid everywhere, arrows, hearts, hearts with arrows, more arrows… did I mention there’ll be lots of arrows?

Probably better if everyone just chooses their favourite action movie. Marathon ready! Now just order in a takeaway feast and you’re good to go: sofa, food, onesie, maybe a board game and lots of stories to remember together… which is what friends are for!

I’d like to point out that this plan also works exceptionally well without your friends. I mean, your favourite movie, a sofa, a blanket… doesn’t sound bad, right? A good video game can also do the trick and, as most of them are single player, you can finally take the time to finish those games you can’t when other people are around.

Maybe you could also take the chance to get some exercise: on the streets, at the gym… it’s all good. With your favourite music in your ears, the effort seems easier, the results are the same and the time will fly by. If you don’t feel inspired by the gym’s playlist for your workout session, I recommend something with a strong beat like dubstep. Just try to avoid putting your music app on shuffle, or you might end up with something unbearably romantic in your ears. Focusing on taking care of yourself and working on the best version of you is always a wise decision.

If you do have a partner, what can I tell you? You’re in luck: this day is for you. Why not take the chance to organise something deeply romantic? Or even something a little crazy if you’re not that way inclined? Maybe a weekend getaway? Or dinner at your favourite restaurant? Remember that in a romantic relationship consistency is key. Making a big effort only on the 14th February will not get you very far if the rest of the year you’re as romantic of a block of wood.

There is no better way to celebrate Valentine’s than by celebrating it every day of the year with the person you most love.
