Autumn in New York

Autumn is our favorite season in New York and Central Park cannot be more beautiful. Enjoy a walk, take a boat out on the lake and have a hot dog while you listen to live music. Grab sweaters and jackets because the weather starts getting chilly.

For the nature buff, a short train ride from Grand Central brings you to Bear Mountain. Jump off the train and enjoy one of the many beautiful trails where you can take in some nature, amazing views of the Hudson River and at the end of your hike you will land right in town to grab a late lunch and some thrift store before taking the train back to your home away from home.

TRADITIONAL FOOD AND DECORATION

This is a family time where New Yorkers get out of the city for apple and pumpkin picking. People Start decorating their homes with pumpkins, pinecones, fall harvest wreaths and Halloween decorations.

Kitchens become the center of gatherings and some of the seasonal treats include: Apple cider, apple pie, pumpkin soup and, of course, Turkey on Thanksgiving with traditional stuffing.

A MUST

You cannot forget to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, it’s the world’s largest parade and this tradition started in 1924. The parade passes right around the corner from the GRACE Hotel and runs from 9am on November 23.

Post-Thanksgiving, usually the 1st Wednesday in December is the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at Rockefeller Center. Enjoy the overwhelming glory of the tallest decorated tree in Manhattan as the holidays get underway.

Want more? The Christmas Village at Bryant Park opens as early as October 28th and offers everything from local craft vendors to specialty treats for all the people on your holiday list.

Did we mention there is an Ice Rink in the middle of all the excitement? Enjoy a whimsical glide on the man-made ice rink that sits on Bryant Park. Surrounded by views of the NYC Library and all the fun of the shopping village will surely get any scrooge in the holiday spirit.

SHOPPING

Black Friday and Cyber Monday are right after Thanksgiving Thursday and are the biggest shopping days of the year, with lots of sales and long lines in stores. If you want to catch the best deals, don’t miss this opportunity. You can find people in stores filling suitcases with products and sometimes fighting over limited quantities.

Be sure take a stroll down 5th Avenue to check out the World-Famous window displays of Bergdorf Goodman, Saks 5th Avenue, Tiffany’s and more!

PARTY

Trick or treat! Halloween is a fun celebration for kids and adults. Amazing decorations everywhere, haunted houses, and kids going door to door trying to gather as much candy as they can. This is a wonderful time to go out and find amusing parties. Don’t forget to get an awesome costume.

No need to worry… The fun doesn’t stop there! December 9th is host to the city’s largest holiday costume extravaganza! Thousands of New Yorkers and guests take to the streets in their best interpretations of their favorite holiday characters for a day of bar crawls, new friends and lots of holiday cheer.

Round off the year with the only place to be for New Years Eve. Host to the largest televised event in countdown history, Times Square is the home of the NYE Ball Drop! Glitz and glam yourself and enjoy all that NYC has to offer. And should you not be up for staying outside, there are hundreds of hosted parties you can attend throughout the city, including at our very own Room Mate Grace Hotel!
