Shopping in Mexico City

Once a year, go somewhere you’ve never been before. And, honestly, I’m not going to be the one to tell you any different from the Dalai Lama. Travelling not only disconnects us from our routine, it also allows us to be amazed time and again by the unknown: new countries, new flavours, streets to wander along, monuments to snapshot, shops to visit and, above all, so much to discover! London, Milan, New York, Florence, Mexico City… Each destination offers a unique chance to be amazed by the world, to get excited by planning your trip and to discover that “commonplace” is just a myth.

When we talk about the fashion capital, we think about Milan, London, Paris… But, did you know that Mexico City has one of the most spectacular luxury shopping avenues in the world? The Avenida Masaryk is home to the most luxurious brands in fashion including Dolce & Gabbana, Tiffany & Co., Louis Vuitton, Prada, Hermès, Gucci… but that’s not all! Here is my essential fashion shopping route with all of Mexico City’s must-visit stores.

6 “made in Mexico” fashion stores

Sandwiched between Avenida Polanco and Presidente Masaryk, you’ll find some Mexican designer boutiques that are a must for all fashion addicts and anyone who loves discovering new brands. If you’re one of those people who leaves no shop untouched on your travels, then this is the essential shopping route for you.

Lorena Saravia

Affordable luxury is brought to us by Lorena Saravia. Her flagship store, located in the centre of Avenida Masaryk, is a must-visit on our shopping route. With items starting at just €50, we can wear one of Mexico’s most internationally renowned designers and add some personality to our wardrobes.  If you don’t have the chance to be in Mexico, you can also buy.

Yakampot

Francisco Cancino is one of Mexico’s most well-known designers on today’s fashion scene. His craftsmanship, contemporary, elegant and natural designs, made using fabric from Chiapas, are transformed into one-of-a-kind pieces that can be bought from his emblematic store on the Avenida Polanco. A store that places the designer at the heart of Mexican fashion.

Tane

One of the most famous high jewellery brands in Latin America, Tane burst onto the scene over half a century ago with its avant-garde designs. You cannot leave Mexico without browsing its line of bags and its jewellery collection created in collaboration with Iris Apfel, among which you’ll find both beautiful statement jewellery and more refined pieces.

Taxonomía

Mexican designer boutique for fashion, decorations, accessories… A unique space celebrating its first year of being open, where you can buy one-of-a-kind pieces handpicked by different Mexican designers, including Iker Ortiz, Bang Buró, Claudia Pepper and Coconá.

Maison Manila

Rossana Díaz del Castillo is, without doubt, one of my favourite Mexican designers. Her designs, her mise-en-scène, her colours… Everything at Maison Manila indicates that this is a fashion brand for excellence. A brand that is reinventing the classics through simple creations, with high-quality and exclusivity. Its collections for men and women verge on limited editions.

Sandra Weil

From €150, you can treat yourself to a fashion creation from designer Sandra Weil; the highest quality, with special attention to the finest details and finishing touches. Her ready to wear collection is modern and sophisticated, with her clothes also naturally lending themselves to professional settings, offering you a truly exclusive style. The designer has also launched a bridal range, with her stunning wedding gowns.

If you’re planning a trip to Mexico City, don’t forget to pop by the Zona Rosa, the Centro Santa Fe – one of the largest in Latin America – and, of course, El Bazaar Sábado, found in the Pl. de San Jacinto in San Ángel, where you’ll discover crafts typical to the region and local works of art, combining luxury, affordable fashion, art and taste in Mexico City.
